We left about 9 this morning for Quesnel, comparatively, a short drive, the last two have been arduous, arriving about noon, giving us some time to explore the town on the banks of the Frazier River and confluence of the Quesnel River. The first thing we did was find a car wash, we drove through some heavy rain showers, really made a mess of the car, then we stopped at the Visitor Center and the museum adjacent where we learned some of the history. Explorer Alexander Mackenzie was the first European to stop here in 1793 in search of the Pacific Ocean, his successor Simon Frazier named the town after his lieutenant, Jules Quesnel. In 1859 hordes of gold miners arrived, the community started to grow ultimately bringing a stern wheeler, railroad and highway to the area. We walked across the first bridge across the Frasier River built in1929 now a pedestrian bridge, to West Quesnel in 34c heat then around town to the Billy Barker Casino built to look like a stern wheeler. I lost $9.55 Canadian money pretty quickly. Quesnel has a walking tour of Quesnel's Little people, 23 fire hydrants painted to look like varying occupations of the people in the area. Cute. That was the extend of our sightseeing, just too hot.
That's it for tonight, we do have some pictures this time.
